Hand crafted glass mosaic portrait of Madonna del Perpetuo Soccorso

This exceptional mosaic portrays an image of the Madonna carrying Jesus as a toddler and it conveys a beautiful spiritual message. Here the portrait of Mary dominates the picture and instead of gazing at Jesus, or her eyes looking skyward or downcast, her eyes are looking straight at you, making you a part of the picture. They command attention, as does the amazing workmanship that has been achieved in creating this elaborate work of art. With superb detailing you can see the Greek letters above the two figures either side of the Madonna which identifies them as Archangels Gabriel and Michael. The young Jesus seems to be looking at Gabriel who carries the cross. Notice how his sandal has fallen off his foot, maybe he was running away from something. We can only guess. Tiny pieces of Venetian glass have been used to create this masterpiece all done entirely by hand and the skill of the craftsman is second to none.
