Description
Hand crafted Murano glass mosaic portrait
Surely one of the greatest works of art of all time, is Michaelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam.” It is a fresco on the ceiling of the famous Sistine Chapel in the Vatican in Rome. Here it has been reproduced in Murano glass mosaic using a technique dating back 300 years. This technique was in fact born in the Vatican school in Rome by an artist called Rafaelli. The methods used are relatively unchanged since that time. It takes years to perfect this kind of technique and these masterpieces can take up to several months to complete. Small coloured pieces of Venetian glass are used, carefully cut to size and positioned to create stunning images such as this magnificent masterpiece. The final effect is absolutely stunning and will certainly be a constant topic of conversation.
Every piece of Venetian glass from Murano, is carefully spun by hand and reduced into a thin square. Founded in the late 19th century F.lli Traversari is one of the latest craftsmen’s workshops in Florence that still continue this tradition. From micro mosaic to "commesso fiorentino".
