Description
Hand crafted Florentine mosaic portrait
This poignant subject is one that immediately captures the imagination. A nun dressed in her habit in the style of long ago accompanies two small children to school. We can only imagine what their faces are like. Are they happy or sad? A mosaic picture that has been masterfully created using semi-precious stones from in and around the Tuscany area; the hills, the River Arno and quarries are chosen ever so carefully for their colour and texture depending on what the subject matter of the picture is. The techniques haven’t changed since the Renaissance period more than 500 years ago and the final result is spectacular.
