Description
Hand crafted Florentine mosaic portrait
This must be one of the most colourful mosaics that we have in our collection. The spellbinding contrast of textures and tones of the semi-precious stones are a joy to behold. There is a distinctly tropical feel to these birds that are perched delicately on the branch. Notice the two little butterflies fluttering carelessly by. The stones are carefully chosen to suit the subject and here there is the gorgeous malachite which is found mainly in Russia, France and America, and also the vividly blue lapis lazuli which comes mainly from India. Techniques inspired from the Renaissance times add to the appeal of this dazzling display of colour and the infinite skill and patience that takes years to master all make up this glorious work of art.
