Hand crafted Florentine mosaic portrait of St.Peter's Basilica in Rome
The highly specialised techniques applied to the art of mosaic is quite extraordinary. Extensive searches are made for hard and semi-precious stones in mountains, river banks, Tuscan hills, as well as stone quarries in other parts of the world. They are carefully cut and joined together using techniques dating back more than 500 years. This particular one of the famous Basilica of St Peter in Rome is outstanding to say the least. The cleverness of the master craftsmen is astonishing creating a 3D effect against a beautiful blue sky. The striking contrast of the different shades of the façade are absolutely breathtaking. A magnificent work of art which illuminates the senses and will definitely take pride of place in any sitting room.
