Many times inspired by the abundant number of stories, myths and legends that abound in Rome and Greece, it is the artist job to find a way to hand carve the images that will best represent the characters. In this particularly intricate cameo once can see the story of the Eagle sent by Zeus to carry off a beautiful young boy.
The story tells that at Dardania, the Eagle carried off Ganymede, the son of Tros, to become the cup bearer of the gods, at Olympus. Zeus compensated Tros, for the loss of his son, by giving two divine horses and the vine of gold to the king. Though, some people say that Zeus had transformed himself into an eagle when he abducted Ganymede.
Because hand-carved, each cameo pendant in seashell is unique. This piece of cameo jewelry is the ONLY one of its kind.
